In this day and age, where there appears to be an abundance of good coffee and nice cars in our area, I have noticed a number of homeless people wandering our streets, I have often wondered at their circumstances, what led them to this lifestyle, was it by choice , bad decisions or bad luck, how often do we think of these people and how we can put up our hand to help.
I love the pay for a second concept, you pay for your coffee and a second cup, a homeless person can at least have a hot drink on a cold day, lets start the movement in palm Beach / Currumbin and see if it makes a slight difference, I will be approaching all the cafes in the area to see if we can get them on board. I am sure most people would not miss $5 once a month, collectively we can accumulate quote a number of cups of coffee I’m sure.
Recently, we had a case where a tenant of ours lost his job and overnight, his whole world changed, he is a single dad and lived week to week like so many people do, ultimately his rent was the first to suffer and unfortunately, we had to evict this gentleman, this is not something we enjoy doing or do lightly, we contacted many organizations to see if they could assist and some came to the rescue which was wonderful.
If you have any issue and need help, we have put together a list of services in our area who may be able to assist you, remember, "it ain’t weak to speak”. These organizations are designed in a way that they know what systems are in place to help in the ways that matter.
In our role as Property Managers, we visit homes each and every day for our routine inspections, maintenance follow ups and landlord visits, on some occasions we see things that cause us concern, child neglect, drug use, hoarding and other signs of mental illness, we are hamstrung by legislation in reporting most matters, we try very hard to help where we can but can only do so much, I’m afraid Red tape binds us like everyone else.
Here is a list of the organizations that can help in a crisis. But remember, talking a problem through before it escalates is the best way to help solve it.
