PBC AFL Club Cleans Up At Awards Night

  • Tags: Gold Coast Community

The Palm Beach-Currumbin AFL Club was almost unrecognisable in 2015. A crisis meeting was held late last year as the Club was in dire financial trouble and was lacking in Committee support and expertise. This meeting resulted in the recruitment of a number of supporters and interested business people. After several subsequent meetings a business plan and operational changes were instigated by the new Committee. Recruitment and players payments were kept under strict control focussing on local youth.

As the season progressed it became evident the Club had developed into a very competitive team thanks to a combined effort from senior coach Chad Owens and the enthusiastic commitment by all team members. The result was both the seniors and reserves ended the home and away season in Second and Third place on the ladder respectively.

The reserves did a fantastic job but were eliminated in the preliminary final, however the seniors won an exciting game against Brisbane's Western Magpies and went on to play off in the grand final. Labrador proved too big and strong though and went on to win the premiership in convincing style.

The achievements of the club were recognised at the Queensland Australian Football League awards night where PBC Football Club were very humbled to almost scoop the entire pool of awards including:
  • CLUB OF THE YEAR
  • COACH OF THE YEAR
  • ADMINISTRATOR  OF THE YEAR
  • THE LEAGUE SENIOR BEST & FAIREST
  • THE LEAGUE SENIOR BEST & FAIREST - RUNNER UP
  • THE RESERVES LEAGUE BEST & FAIREST

While there is no doubt about the outstanding effort by the Club on the ground, it's performance off the ground was equally outstanding having substantially reduced its’ debt due to tight financial controls, well organised functions and the support of generous sponsors.

The Club can look forward to the 2017 season with renewed optimism
